Intro to Colorwork - 2 hour workshop with pre-work required.

Intro to Colorwork : Basic Doodle Hat.

Take the mystery out of stranded color work with this two hour workshop.

Using the Basic Doodle hat pattern by Jamie Lomax of Pacific Knit Co. you will learn the basic techniques of knitting color work in the round.

Techniques we will be learning include:

  1. Managing two colors

  2. Managing float tension

  3. When, where and how to tuck floats

  4. Reading and managing charts in the round

Skill Level: Intermediate. Must know how to knit and purl and knit in the round. It would help to be reasonably familiar with basic beanie construction.

Prior Experience Required: Must be familiar with knitting a simple beanie in the round.

Materials:

  • One copy of the Basic Doodle Hat Pattern by Pacific Knit Co. PRINTED. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/basic-doodle-hat

  • 2 skeins of Kelbourne Woolens Germantown DK in contrasting colors.
    Or
    Approx 100g of DK weight yarn in Main color, and 50g of contrasting DK weight yarn.

  • One US 4/3.5mm 16” circular needle

  • One US 5/3.75 16” circular needle

  • One set of size 4/3.5mm Double Pointed Needles

  • 3-4 stitch markers, plus 1 unique stitch marker to mark your beginning of round.

  • Highlighter Tape or Post-it notes

We’ll Provide: Hands-on Instruction in one 2-hour class with up to 4 people.

Homework: Prior to class, students are expected to cast on the size of hat they are planning to make, and have knit the entirety of the ribbed brim in either 1x1 or 2x2 ribbing. For any questions please email Emily at KnitWithEmily@gmail.com
